Tianhong Yang Piano - Tianhong Yang Pianist Tianhong Yang is highly acclaimed in the world of classical music for her exceptional technique, profound artistic insight, and outstanding stage performances. She showcases remarkable musical talent and a deep understanding of music in her piano playing, earning widespread appreciation for her delicate musical expression and unique artistic style. As an internationally renowned artist, Yang has achieved top honors in several major international piano competitions, including first prizes at the Liege International Piano Competition in Belgium, the Antonio Bertolini International Competition in Milan, Italy, and the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) Competition. She has performed in many prestigious venues across Europe and America, including Carnegie Hall in New York, USA; DeSingel in Antwerp, Belgium; BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff, UK; and Auditorio Sony in Madrid, Spain. She has also collaborated with the Antwerp Camerata and was a featured guest artist at the Klara Festival in Belgium in 2017. In addition to her concert appearances, Yang has been invited to perform solo recitals at numerous esteemed music festivals worldwide, including The Art of Piano Festival, Imuse Festival, and the Hanoi International Piano Festival. Embracing her role as a diverse musician of the 21st century, Yang actively promotes contemporary music throughout her career. She not only possesses a broad international perspective in music but also engages in cross-cultural exchange and music projects. In 2016, she premiered Daniel Davis's Sonata for Violin and Piano with violinist Filipe Abreu, with their performance recorded by RTP Portugal. As co-founders of Aroma Duo, Tianhong Yang and Johnny Mok work closely with composers to present their latest works, aiming to enlighten and inspire audiences with fresh perspectives. Aroma Duo has performed chamber music by contemporary composers from diverse backgrounds, including Chinese composer Zhang Haofu based in Belgium, Turkish composer Fazil Say, and Afghan composer Arson Fahim. Yang continues to tour globally as a solo pianist and actively engages in chamber music with musicians from varied cultural backgrounds, exploring diverse musical styles and performance approaches. Aroma Duo has been featured as guest artists in numerous chamber music series, such as the Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra, Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, and Macau Alternative Music Festival. Taisiya Sokolova Viola - Taisiya Sokolova Taisiya Sokolova was raised in a musical family and received her first music lessons from her mother. She started playing violin at the age of three and viola at the age of twelve in her native Russia, attending a Gnessin Special Music School for gifted children. After graduating from Gnessin School, she came to the US to attend the Colburn Academy for Young Artists. She then received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from Indiana University. Taisiya is a prize winner of numerous competitions, such as MTNA State Competition in 2014 and 2015, Imperial Symphony Orchestra Young Artists competition in 2014, and the International Competition “21st Century Art” in Kiev, Ukraine, in 2009. Taisiya has performed in Russia, Turkey, Israel, Germany and USA. She made her debut as a soloist with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra in Lakeland, Florida in March of 2014. In August of 2015, appeared with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Alicante in Perugia, Italy. She is also an avid chamber musician, and appeared in festivals such as Heifetz, Red Rock Music Festival, and MusicFestPerugia. As an orchestral musician, Taisiya is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has performed with orchestras such as Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, New Bedfrod Symphony, and Camerata Chicago. Ms. Sokolova is a passionate educator and taught her first private lesson at the age of seven. She rediscovered her passion for teaching while attending Indiana University and working closely with Mimi Zweig at IU String Academy. Upon graduation, she started her teaching career in Chicago, where she established a private studio as well as teaching in public schools and music academies, such as American Music Institute, and Northside Music Academy. To further advance her teaching career, Taisiya moved to Boston to earn a Doctorate in Musical Arts at Boston University. Johnny Mok Cello - Johnny MOk Johnny Mok is a cellist renowned for his performances and teaching. Born in Hong Kong, China, and now based in Boston, his journey in music has crossed continents, from Asia to the United States, touching audiences and students alike with his dedication and artistry. His musical path began early, with foundational lessons from Elvina Kwan at the Hong Kong Performing Arts Academy, before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to study with Pamela Washburn Delisse. As a young musician, Johnny was an active member of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program, where he developed his skills in orchestral and chamber music, even serving as Principal Cellist. Johnny’s talent and hard work have been recognized through awards in prestigious competitions like the Jackie McGehee Young Artist Competition, CICA International Competition, the Birmingham Music Club Scholarship Competition, the American String Teacher Association Music Competition, and the Brookline Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. These achievements led him to perform as a soloist and with orchestras across the United States. After completing his undergraduate studies on a full scholarship at the University of Alabama, Mok pursued his Master’s degree at The Boston Conservatory, studying with Andrew Mark. Here, he deepened his passion for chamber music and solo performance, founding the Aston String Quartet and premiering new works. His educational journey continued at Boston University, where he completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree under the guidance of Michael Reynolds of the Muir Quartet and Mihail Jojatu of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This period marked a significant deepening of his technical skills and musical understanding. In 2019, Mok took a pivotal step in his career by founding the Aroma Duo, with pianist Tianhong Yang. Together, they have performed globally, bringing their music to audiences around the world and showcasing their collaborative spirit. Mok's international presence was further established with performances at notable venues and festivals, including a guest artist performance at Rencontres Musicales de Noyer in France, a celebrated performance at Carnegie Hall, and an Asia debut in Macao and Nanjing with the Aroma Duo. He also participated in Portugal's Verão Clássico Festival, where he studied with renowned cellists Gary Hoffman, Thomas Carroll, and Pieter Wispelwey. Jonathan Reddix Piano - Jonathan Reddix Jonathan has competed and won prizes in numerous competitions around the country including the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition at UT Austin (2009), the Pueblo Keyboard Arts Festival (2011), the Colorado Yamaha Piano Competition (2011 & 2012), and most recently he earned second prize at the fourth annual New York Artist’s International Competition. Dr. Reddix received his Bachelor of Music in piano at the Lamont School of Music in Denver in 2016 Under Steven Mayer, where he received the University’s award for outstanding piano recital in 2014 and 2015. In the 2015-2016 season, he performed Liszt’s Totentanz at the opening concert for the American Liszt Society’s annual festival and also performed at Lincoln Center as a laureate of the NYIAC. He completed his Master’s under Eteri Andjaparidze at NYU’s Steinhardt School in 2019, where he also served as an instructor in piano. He earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts in 2022 under Gila Goldstein and Pavel Nersessian where he also taught aural skills and group piano. When not at the piano, Jonathan can be found honing his cooking skills from the works of the great Julia Child!
