Taisiya Sokolova

Taisiya Sokolova was raised in a musical family and received her first music lessons from her mother. She started playing violin at the age of three and viola at the age of twelve in her native Russia, attending a Gnessin Special Music School for gifted children.  After graduating from Gnessin School, she came to the US to attend the Colburn Academy for Young Artists. She then received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from Indiana University.
 
Taisiya is a prize winner of numerous competitions, such as MTNA State Competition in 2014 and 2015, Imperial Symphony Orchestra Young Artists competition in 2014, and the International Competition β€œ21st Century Art” in Kiev, Ukraine, in 2009. Taisiya has performed in Russia, Turkey, Israel, Germany and USA.  She made her debut as a soloist with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra in Lakeland, Florida in March of 2014. In August of 2015, appeared with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Alicante in Perugia, Italy. She is also an avid chamber musician, and appeared in festivals such as Heifetz, Red Rock Music Festival, and MusicFestPerugia. As an orchestral musician, Taisiya is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has performed with orchestras such as Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, New Bedfrod Symphony, and Camerata Chicago.
 
Ms. Sokolova is a passionate educator and taught her first private lesson at the age of seven. She rediscovered her passion for teaching while attending Indiana University and working closely with Mimi Zweig at IU String Academy. Upon graduation, she started her teaching career in Chicago, where she established a private studio as well as teaching in public schools and music academies, such as American Music Institute, and Northside Music Academy. To further advance her teaching career, Taisiya moved to Boston to earn a Doctorate in Musical Arts at Boston University. Ms. Sokolova currently resides in Boston and is an active educator all along the Greater Boston area.
